Students' Monitored Canteen

A unique, student-monitored, non-profit dining facility at IISER Kolkata — flexible, fair, and community-driven.

Overview

The Students' Monitored Canteen (SMC) is a unique, non-profit dining facility run under the supervision of the Students' Affairs Office at IISER Kolkata. It is managed in collaboration with the student community and operates on the principle of providing nutritious, affordable meals without any commercial markup.

The SMC serves thousands of meals daily across multiple dining halls and a dedicated night canteen, ensuring that every student, regardless of their schedule, has access to quality food at all times.

  • Minimum Balance: Accounts with balance below ₹50 are temporarily blocked.
  • Suggested Recharge: ₹1,000–₹2,500 when you arrive on campus.
