Committees & Councils

Student life and administrative governance at IISER Kolkata are supported by various statutory committees, student representation bodies, and specialized cells. These bodies ensure transparency, student welfare, discipline, equity, and smooth institutional functioning.

Students participate actively in decision-making processes through elected representatives and appointed committee members.

The Students' Affairs Council (SAC) is the apex student body representing all students of IISER Kolkata. It oversees all student activities, clubs, festivals, and student welfare initiatives.

• Structure: Executive Committee, General Secretaries for Hostels, Sports, Culture, Academics, and Environment.
• Elections: Annual student elections held in accordance with democratic guidelines.
• Responsibilities: Managing student budget allocation, coordinating fests, addressing student grievances, and liaising with the Students' Affairs Office.

IISER Kolkata maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment. The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) is constituted in accordance with the Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act.

• Provides a secure, confidential mechanism for registering complaints.
• Conducts impartial inquiries and recommends corrective action.
• Organizes campus gender sensitization workshops and awareness programs.

In compliance with UGC Regulations and Supreme Court mandates, IISER Kolkata strictly enforces a Zero Tolerance Policy towards Ragging.

• Anti-Ragging Committee: Headed by the Director and comprising faculty, administrative officers, student representatives, and civil authorities.
• Anti-Ragging Squad: Conducts surprise inspections of hostels, canteens, and campus zones between 9:30 PM and 11:00 PM.

The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) ensures an inclusive environment for students belonging to SC, ST, OBC, PwD, and minority communities.

• Monitors implementation of reservation policies and welfare schemes.
• Provides academic counseling, remedial classes, and guidance.
• Addresses grievances related to discrimination or marginalization.

The Students' Mess Committee (SMC) manages the non-profit dining facilities across campus.

• Monitors meal quality, hygiene, menu planning, and pricing.
• Coordinates the prepaid ID card dining system.
• Holds monthly review meetings with food vendors and mess staff.

Student representatives sit on various academic bodies to provide feedback on curriculum, course scheduling, and academic facilities:

• Senate Student Representatives: Participate in Senate discussions on academic policies.
• Departmental Academic Committees (DAC): Address department-level student academic feedback.
• Library Committee: Advises on book acquisitions, digital subscriptions, and reading room hours.

The institute provides multi-tiered grievance redressal for students:

1. Level 1: Hostel Warden / Academic Advisor / Head of Department
2. Level 2: Associate Dean of Students / Chief Warden
3. Level 3: Dean of Students / Student Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC)

Administrative oversight for student affairs is led by:

• Dean of Students' Affairs (DOSA): Overall leadership of student welfare and campus life.
• Associate Deans: Specialized oversight for Hostels, Sports, Culture, and Discipline.
• Chief Warden & Wardens: Residential management across all hostel halls.
